Abstract

This study aims to formulate development strategies for the porang commodity in Talumae Village, Watang Sidenreng Subdistrict, Sidrap Regency. The research is based on the growing demand in the export market for porang, which has high economic value but faces several challenges such as low productivity, pest and disease attacks, and limited market control. A mixed-method approach was employed through surveys, in-depth interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. Data were analyzed using a SWOT analysis to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to porang development. The findings indicate that key strengths include land availability, experienced farmers, and adequate production facilities, while weaknesses involve pest infestations, low productivity, and weak market penetration. Opportunities stem from government support and increasing industrial demand, whereas threats include price fluctuations and limited access to agricultural information. The resulting strategies involve leveraging farmer experience and production resources to improve the quality and quantity of porang to meet market demands. The study concludes that targeted development strategies based on local potential can enhance farmer welfare and support national export efforts.
