Abstract

Amorphophallus muelleri Blume, known as porang, is economically valuable due to its glucomannan content widely used in the food industry. However, its cultivation in Indonesia is still limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of soil tillage methods and rice husk charcoal on porang seedling growth. The research was conducted in Pammana District, Wajo Regency, from April to June 2022 using a factorial Randomized Block Design with two factors: soil tillage (no tillage, minimum, maximum) and rice husk charcoal (none, 1:1, 1:2). Parameters observed were plant height, leaf number, and stem diameter at 15 days after planting. Results showed that maximum soil tillage with rice husk charcoal 1:2 produced the best growth for all parameters, increasing plant height to 8.43 cm, leaf number to 6.67, and stem diameter to 4.92 mm. Thus, maximum tillage and rice husk charcoal effectively support early porang growth. This result can be a reference for porang cultivation to increase production.
