Abstract

This study describes the types of traditional medicinal plants used by the community in Beringin village, Ngapa district, and evaluates their use and potential application as learning resources in biology lessons. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, and data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature reviews. Informants in this study were local residents who have knowledge of traditional medicinal practices, and biology teachers, who provided insights about the integration of this knowledge into learning. The study identified 28 types of medicinal plants from 24 families that are used by the community to treat various types of diseases. The plant parts used include rhizomes, tubers, stems, leaves, fruits, and seeds, and the processing methods include boiling, cutting, pounding, grating, and squeezing. In addition, these plants are consumed directly, such as by drinking them, or applied to the body, such as by smearing, pasting, and dripping, or when bathing (ma'boso). Interviews with biology teachers revealed that this ethnobotanical knowledge is highly relevant to biodiversity material in biology. Therefore, the results of this study have strong potential to be integrated into learning as a contextual learning resource that supports the preservation of local culture and the strengthening of the profile of Pancasila students.
