Abstract

This study validates the development of e-modules containing ethnoscience (lawa making) in biotechnology materials and determines its practicality and effectiveness in Grade X of senior high school. This study was motivated by the low correlation between biotechnology materials and the local cultural context that makes learning more meaningful. It employed a research and development methodology and a 4-D model (define, design, develop, disseminate). The define stage included an analysis of needs and student characteristics. In the design stage, an e-module was developed. The develop stage involved validation by material and media experts, as well as product trials. In the disseminate stage, the e-module was implemented in a classroom. The e-module achieved a validity score of 75% from the material experts and 98% from the media experts, which meet the criteria for the valid and very valid categories. The practicality test shows that 76.67% of students rated the e-module in the valid category, and 23.33% of students rated it in the very valid category. The effectiveness test, using N-Gain analysis, shows that most students experienced an increase in learning outcomes, to the fairly high to very high categories. Thus, this ethnoscience-based e-module is declared valid, practical, effective, and feasible to be used in learning. The integration of local culture into biotechnology learning can improve student understanding, motivate learning, and foster a love for regional culture.
