Abstract

This study focuses on students’ lack of critical thinking skills caused by teaching techniques that are less varied, specifically, in biology lessons in Grade X at MAS As'adiyah Putri Sengkang. It tested the effect of using the problem-based learning technique on students’ analytical thinking skills. A quasi-experimental study using quantitative techniques was conducted in Semester 2 of 2024/2025. The population was all students in Grade X: the control group was Grade X.6 and the treatment group was Grade X.7. Data were collected through a critical thinking skills questionnaire and pretest and posttest results. They were then tested using descriptive and inferential techniques. The problem-based learning model had a significant impact on the results of the hypothesis analysis. An independent T test produced a significance figure ≤ α (α = 0.05). Thus, the hypothesis was supported.
