Abstract

Biodiversity is one of the essential topics in Biology learning, yet students often experience difficulties in understanding the concepts because learning materials are generally less contextual and do not integrate local knowledge. Incorporating ethnobotanical knowledge into teaching materials is expected to enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of local biological resources. This study aimed to develop an ethnobotany-based Biology teaching module on biodiversity material and to determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects consisted of two expert validators and 22 tenth-grade students of UPT SMA Negeri 9 Wajo. The research instruments included validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and learning achievement tests in the form of pretests and posttests. The results showed that the developed module obtained a validity score of 91.6%, which was categorized as highly valid. The practicality level based on students’ responses reached 91.55%, indicating that the module was highly practical. The effectiveness of the module was demonstrated by the improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with an average pretest score of 62.72 and an average posttest score of 93.18, as well as an N-Gain score of 0.81, which was classified as high. Therefore, the ethnobotany-based Biology teaching module was considered valid, practical, and effective for use in biodiversity learning.
